Yes but we as a culture are almost allergic to fractions (much preferring decimals). So we created 22/7 and 14/11 as a whole way of expressing the AE concepts;
11 / 3-1/2 and 7 / 5-1/2
Please note (from the Rhind papyrus and some recovered cubits) they were completely comfortable with the above fractions. Would they not see the doubling of the ratios to make them whole numbers an extra wasteful step?
This in no way changes the mathematic solution of PI of course.
But since they didn't use decimals, it sure wasn't 3.14159265.
Might I ask WHY you would conclude 4 was so critical to them? In their fractional system I see no proof multiplying the two fractions above is proof conclusive they would have...
