Hello RLH,
You posted to Khazar-Khum, ‘Also if you consider that even as late as Piazzi Smyth he wrongly had the vertical axis aligned with the south wall of the QC.’
This is the first time I’ve heard of this error allegedly by Piazzi Smyth, as far as I can recall.
Likewise, AFAIK Petrie never mentioned it (I have not read all of Petrie's publications on or mentioning Khufu's pyramid).
Please can you give your source?
A lot of people tend to ignore Smyth because of his Pyramidology-based theories, yet his 3 Vol.
Life and Work at the Great Pyramid Edinburgh 1867, contains a wealth of data not observed, recorded or published by Flinders Petrie, and as such is essential reading and study for anybody wishing to theorise on the plan and dimensions of Khufu’s pyramid.
True, some of Smyth’s measurements of the Pyramid’s interior were found by Petrie to be incorrect, but only minorly so, and this is balanced by the fact that in some cases Petrie deferred to Smyth (the height of the Grand Gallery, for example).
In fact, Petrie admired Smyth and his work and was, so I believe, somewhat disheartened when he found himself disproving many of Smith’s theories.
