Poussin had little to no knowledge of the pyramid's interior; even the Arab explorers hadn't gotten all the information. What was published varied greatly in accuracy.
Poussin & all the other artists of his time relied heavily on geometry to assist in the "Harmonious" placements of figures. One reason you see so many checkerboard floors was that they used the floor grid to properly align the perspective.
Poussin & many others wrote about their methods, as a way of teaching & enlightening others. Bernini's is perhaps the most insightful.
