Numerology means a whole bunch of different things.
But the aspects you are probably thinking about are the ones with associations to superstition.
This is a lot of nonsense, but:

If enough people believe, it, and it becomes influential in history, then its worth studying.
Numbers are all around us, and they certainly play a role in our societies at a fundamental level.
