I'm OK with it if done right. Indeed on page 20 of my guide on the pyramid back in 2020, l did suggest that the debris be cleared and the blocks put back; maybe the authorities read my guide:-)
I recall some years back a destroyed temple in Italy l think, was rebuilt using 3d scanning and computers. Modern tech allows great precision and accuracy when it comes to finding which item goes where. There is a vast amount of debris surrounding the pyramid, which covers the lowest course, who knows what artifacts lurks under all this material.
I don't see any downsides, always assuming the restoration is done properly; much can be learn in the process.
The alternative is to leave it as it is, covered in debris. At one time Khufu and Khafre was covered in a huge amount of debris, which was cleared, why should Menkaure be exempt the same treatment.
