The first Chinese measurement units were created by the Yellow Emperor - [
en.wikipedia.org] - whose traditional reign dates are 2697–2597 or 2698–2598 BC. So that might have been roughly contemporary with the Early Dynastic/Old Kingdom. Apparently, length units were derived from the human body ...
So we might be back to cubits again! Unless ancient Chinese elbows differed materially from ancient Egyptian ones ...
