I proposed this pulley back in 2007 as the solution for the word "dm-sceptre" in ancient writing.
Since then I have come to believe they had three part pulleys as are used today made of copper or bronze. These would necessarily be very heavy and very valuable so none survived.
"Planning is underway for a project to lift a 2,268 kg limestone block, similar in dimensions to a typical Great Pyramid stone, up a 52 degree incline using human pullers. It is estimated that 70 pullers will be required. The rate of stone lifting will be investigated as will be stone loading and unloading techniques. The ultimate project goal is the production of a documentary to chronicle the project efforts, including a search at the Giza Plateau for discarded pulley components ( [
exarc.net] )."
I don't believe it is really necessary to do this though I still applaud their efforts. It is obviously possible to do this work with this tool so the time might be better spent thinking about how to configure the tool with all the evidence. For instance the pyramids are apparently all cladded and stepped structures so the question isn't really whether you can lift stones up a 52 degree side or 42 degree edge but rather can you configure pulleys to lift stones up 72 degree step sides and then fill and clad the resultant structure.
I believe this is the only possible way to build a pyramid using ancient technology, tools, that fits with the available evidence.
It does my heart a lot of good to see them doing this. There are others as well who have been saying this for many years as ramps are tried and retried and always found wanting.
