In the GH mb I opened a thread where I show how Khafre designed the position of the cult pyramid as also the sphinx facing East to encode a specific epoch when while Regulus is due East, at the same time the central Orion belt star is due South:

This epoch is in the 20th century AD.

We thus need to keep this in mind when we look at the shaft alignments.

We also need to look at the geographic alignments.

The Khafre pyramid was planned so as to target through the position of the Great Pyramid, Heliopolis.

We know that the azimuth between this pyramid and the Senusret I obelisk at Heliopolis is 45 degrees.

But this is the slope of the South King's Chamber shaft.

Since the name Heliopolis relates to Helios, the Sun, we notice that Ra is the ancient Egyptian deity of the sun. The major cult center of Ra was Heliopolis. It this is interesting that Chephren was the first pharaoh at Giza to be called 'son of Ra', Khaf-Ra. It is evident that this was done so as to reinforce the 45 degree alignment with Heliopolis.

I thus believe that the south shafts, apart from Orion, could have been planned so as to encode the date of the year when the Sun shines down the South Kings chamber air-shaft.


The fact that the queen chamber air-shafts were not designed to reach the surface of the pyramid, I believe leads us to the notion that we need to choose a different coordinate on the globe that corresponds to the shaft alignment. This alignment was not meant to be observed from Giza.

We thus don't need to look into any alignments with Kochab or Sirius. It is possible that they wanted to point to Orion, to the pole star(weather this is Thuban or Polaris), and of course, the Sun.

The fact that the Sun was what they were thinking about is evident with the Giza causeways, which bisect the Equinoxes and the Solstices.
