Are we sure this is what they wanted to portray? If we consider the Khufu pyramid was erected at 2580 BC, then the error in the (mean) shaft slope is as follows(from Stellarium data):
error
South King Chamber (Alnitak) = 0.4152°
North King Chamber (Thuban) = 1.4194°
South Queen Chamber (Sirius) = 0.5122°
North Queen Chamber (Kochab) = 0.7347°
Large error values.
And I think the 'smoking gun' in this line of thinking is the South Subterranean shaft slope and position. It points to a bright star on or close to the horizon in the South at it's upper culmination. Did such a star exist when the pyramid was erected as observed from Giza? No.
