I'm well aware that Dr Hawass is largely a figurehead now days. But he's a figurehead who has often spoken out against science, scientists, and scientific results. He's a figurehead who is often purported to represent the state of the art in Egyptology.
I'm actually almost a "fan" of Hawass because of his successes but this hardly means I support the relative absence of science that has been done at Giza for the last 30 years or the failure to apply far older than 30 year technology to discovering the nature of the pyramids and how they were built.
This methodology was entrenched even before Hawass was born so blaming him would be unfair. As a legitimate expert he deserves everyone's respect but as a figurehead he represents the past.
