OK, Update:
Two issues:
1/ The Nubia Museum in Aswan:
[
www.numibia.net]
This museum has the: "Regional Training Center in Conservation and Museology"
[
www.numibia.net]
So I think it would be worthwhile contacting them to voice our concern, and find out, officially, who is responsible for Nabta Playa from the SCA, and what plans they have, and how much care is being taken, and who is carrying out the work.
Fancy doing that Hermione???
I'm sure we could get a letter together.
Also:
2/ Thom Brophy has built some elaborate theories on top of the fundamental observations made by Fred Wendorf (the original excavator) - Wendorf proposed the circle was orientated towards 'Meskhetiu'/Plough, Sah/Orion and Sothis/Sirius as other Egyptian traditions also show, but Brophy has added all sorts of stuff onto this that is frankly,
Smythesque.
While I respect his concern for the site, the fact that his alternative theories are now appended to the Wikipedia article and also to the Google Earth main map is something of a concern. I don't suggest a 'missionary' style demand for it all to be deleted, but perhaps it may be worth re-visiting it and making sure that Wendorf's legitime ideas get the main billing, and Brophy's are clearly differentiated from those.
Doug might be interested in that side of the site.
