Well, following Robert Bauval's recent post showing the changes that have taken place at the hugely important Nabta Playa prehistoric stone calendar circle in south west Egypt:- The news is that after 8000 years the monument has suddenly been considerably 'changed'...and not by accident either!:
I suggested to Hermione she contacted Fred Wendorf (the original excavating archaeologist) as part of our effort to find out what had happened, which she did over the last couple of days, and he informed her yesterday that work had been undertaken recently to move some of the main stones to the Nubian Museum at Aswan...
Romuald Schild of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology, Polish Academy of Sciences, also involved with Fred Wendorf, also e-mailed Hermione to explain that some of the damage may have been caused by a bulldozer that was employed to extract some of the main stones for the museum recently....
The main calendar circle was removed to the museum at Aswan in Feb 2008...after 7000 years.
He stated that they have replaced this with a modern reconstruction in the original place.
Tourists have also placed stones around the main standing stone.
However, as can be seen from the photos Robert posted, the state of the site itself is currently very poor and totally unprotected and un-signed - and in places is rubbish strewn despite being deep in the desert.
I think we need to keep abreast of this for the moment.
