Thanks for that Chris. I've had it explained to me in a similar fashion that star-like symbols and surveying may be interrelated. My purely mathematical approach however can do without stars but I still have this feeling that what I call a backsight post may in fact be a star on the horizen either rising or setting.

There are star-like symbols with a hole in the middle (small circle within a star) from the pre-dynastic which terminate or begin in front of an animal procession. These are not fully understood but may yet add up in some commemorative way to the initial surveying of sacred buildings.
