Actually, the stars of Leo were probably chosen because they are on the path of the ecliptic so you would see them each rising just before the sun as the summer progresses. The one corresponding to the GP is a little to the right of the ecliptic but the other two are right on it, as is Regulus, which may mark the location of a secret crypt or something.
