On page 29 Petrie gives his measurements for the pyramid's sides as measured at the point where the exterior casing meets the "platform". He says that the "square of the original base of the Great Pyramid casing on the platform is of these dimensions...". On Plate XI he provides two sketches showing the realtionship between the casing and the "pavement" level, and here one sees that "pavement" is apparently also termed "platform" by Petrie.

These readings are reinforced on page 183 where he gives other dimensions for the pyramid's exterior when measured at various socket depths. Note that these depths are erroneously listed by Petrie as "above base", when clearly below the base was meant. (Ronald Birdsall's Petrie website [www.ronaldbirdsall.com] has corrected for this error.)
