can someone explain to me what the order was in the construction of The GP. Was the base (pavement) constructed first then the pyramid or was the pyramid constructed and then the base added at a certain elevation. The reason I ask is that in Petrie's illustration it appears that the corner socket goes below the base so it leads me to wonder what was the order.

And a second question: What did Petrie use to get his final dimensions of the Great Pryamid ? The base ? Or something else ? I have read his notes but am still unclear ...
