I don't know, maybe Anthony can answer this. But why SHOULD they be located directly under the apex ? Simply because it is a pyramid ? Is there any particular reason you ask yourself this question ?

I know that Petrie pretended it was originally only approx. half the size of the monument as we know it today. I think it was Stadelmann who rejected this. But I can't give you the precise measurements you are looking for.

IF it is true that this pyramid was enlarged, does this not invalidate your theory of the overall ground-plan ?
