I've never actually been to Giza in person...
You need to be weary of giving the wrong impression here since we used to get questions like that from Mr. LeMaster, who once was associated with Dr. Schoch's website, about geological experience and the Sphinx area when legitimate criticism was made. I seem to remember being asked something like that as well during that long Sphinx debate but can't seem to find it..... I found this one though:

Has Dr Schoch conveyed to you what he examined in the thin section of the Lauer sample and was that information conveyed to Miss Morris like Dr. Zeller and Mr. McKinney apparently was since their supporting evidence was often cited in the geopolymer publications at that time? Do you know why Dr. Schoch was picked to study the Lauer sample rather than some more qualified limestone petrologist? This might give us more insight into why Dr. Zeller and Mr. McKinney were picked.

Common sense....

Not really... just a little reading, asking questions of knowledgeable people, and looking at good photos of the areas in question... quite amazing what tools those sources of information are capable of providing to oneself.
Here I will give you an example of how it work:

This is the southwest corner of the Sphinx enclosure. In a discussion with Mr. West a number of years ago he apparently claimed something along the lines of him not really spending much time looking at it to incorporate into the Sphinx theory, and he himself seemed to think this moderately eroded originally geometric structure was carved almost entirely by millennia of gushing water from 12 feet or whatever of erosion on the enclosure wall surfaces and then used as a drainage ditch by the AE. Which, of course, is inconsistent with the archeology literature of the area, which clearly states that is was a quarried structure acting as a drainage ditch and/or boundary marker (Jordan 1998, page 14-15). Maybe you can get Dr. Schoch to give us his thoughts on the subject considering he seems to think these south-western enclosure walls eroded back a max of 3-6 feet or whatever? I don't expect an answer consistent with his "precipitation induced weathering" erosion model because there is not one for 3-12 feet or erosion... it clearly does not take an "education" to observe inconsistencies like this in geo-Giza claims.
Mr. West claims:
