They could of angled it north and only have to go one quarter the distance. That is the logical thing to do.’

You have presented a point and asked a question that now has me seriously re-considering some of my views on this Shaft – but I’m not complaining.

As I have posted to Cladking, I plan to start a thread on the Well Shaft fairly soon - I’m already in the throes of collecting together the necessary data.
At the risk of appearing evasive, would you mind my postponing answering your post until then?

BTW, leaving aside arguments about whether or not the Well Shaft was a ventilation shaft, one thing is certain – it works very efficiently as a ventilation shaft (as Caviglia was, by all accounts, mightily relieved to discover).
