Ritva: "The thing is, the missing glyph may not necessarily have to be the goose. It could as well be the much smaller W11, which together with the leg would write "gb" and form the goose! The image of Djoser would then be the determinative, since it is he who is supposed to be Geb in this context"
OK - I forget about the W11 (g) sign - thanks for reminding me - that would fit.
But - in the earliest secure mentions of his name in the Pyramid of Unis, out of 17 mentions, 15 have the goose + leg and two have the leg + goose.
No W11 anywhere.
However, in the only mention of Geb in non royal tombs in the OK, dating from late Dyn 5 to early Dyn 6, its written W11 (g) + the 'leg' / 'foot' sign D58 (b) + the 'goose' sign G38 (gb) + the det. 'seated bearded god' det. A40. The reference for this is 'Untersuchungen zur Götterwelt des Alten Reiches, Begelsbacher-Fischer, pp.214, 237 if anyone has it, they could check it.
