These carvings were of enormous religious significance... and you make it sound like "quick sketches" were the best they could manage.

Also, if indeed it was supposed to be a circle, then why isn't it round like a true geometric circle? If this culture found circles to be SO important that they would encode Pi in a king's pyramid, shouldn't they at the very least find them important enough to draw properly?

I find the logical contradictions to be stark and frankly, laughable.

Try the heat of the desert. See how that affects the refraction.
