Well the basing the "real" face of Nefertiti on a statue should raise a red flag to anyone who knows anything about ancient sculpture. There are MANY depictions of people from the Amarna period and the funniest thing is that this particular is the most unlike any Amarna period art in many ways. While it is more realistic looking, you certainly cannot know how a person looked from a statue. Be that as it may, the remaining portraits from this period are just as beautiful as this one and also give clues to how people actually looked in Egypt at that time. While there were exaggerations, there were also fairly realistic ones as well. In this case, it boils down to certain people wanting to select this statue as a supreme example of Egyptian beauty, even as there are many others that are just as beautiful. Of course, being that it was discovered while Daddy Hitler was in power and was to be a centerpiece of the memorial to the history of the reich, it is obvious the real amarna portraits would not have been considered beautiful.
