I think that you and I are on the same page. I see problems with both "orthodox" and "alternative" points of views. I would love to see a world where there is a little alternie in the orthos and vice versa. I've been lucky though...none of my pet theories have died yet so I haven't been bummed out so far. What worries me is extremism towards one direction or the other. Hence why I would love to see a world that was a little of both.
I also agree that it is very easy to embrace a fad or novel idea that is unprovable. If it sounds good, why not? For me, I'm indecisive. My son will probably always remember me as either saying "I don't know" or "It could be this way or it could be that way." I should've been a politician.
