This "internal disconnect" is actually very common. In other words, action/reaction is much faster than any thoughts...

The senses tell you something and you first have to react to that before having had the "time" to think...

So, for example, the fact that the moon "looks" bigger is a direct input to the visual senses which will over-ride the other processes...

Also, for example, when one writing or saying something, the flow of energy is much faster than the thought process and one does not actually "realize" what one just said or wrote moments later...
