My experiences with politics in Egyptology have less to do with funding and money and more to do with the competitive nature of the field. When only 30% of Egyptology PhDs are employed, there is quite a lot of political maneuvering and scheming to make a name for yourself. Passion spent less towards the subject, and more towards being better than the guy next to you. I can't bring myself to do that, so I don't think I'll go as far as originally intended.
