Well, the gene is called the "Thrifty-gene". Couldn't remember the exact "name" of the gene was but once I did, a simple search on google will give you a TON of websites about it. Here's a kind of "intro" to the "thrifty-gene theory" (or hypothesis depending on who you're reading).

We've been altering our diet here since diabetes is a concern as well, placing extra emphasis on meats (more chicken, fish and some red meats perhaps 1-2 a week) and vegetables. We've found that a typical Asian diet seems to work well with my husband's feeling of "wellness". He's lactose intolerant as well so we don't eat alot of cheesy or creamy foods. So in a sense, we're trying to kind of match the previous diet but without things like blue corn mush (which I'm not fond of at all...).
