Blood sugar problems do seem to have some prevalence in Native American groups. Diabetes is a substantial risk as well as obesity. I remember reading an article somewhere (as usual, I can't remember where) that discussed a particuliar gene that was common to all Native Americans. Basically, the gene was a "survival" gene that made it so that Native Americans could survive longer on less as well as high protein diets. I'll track it down if you're interested. Anyways, the gene hasn't changed in Native Americans or those with ancestry so enter in the high sugar, carbohydrate diets of western culture and the result tends to be diabetes and/or obesity. This is probably the reason why your daughter does well more on a traditional native american diet and starts feeling low when it's altered to a "western" diet.
I can see if I can track down the article if you're interested in reading it.
