lol, Robert. Your waiter probably figured it was best to serve you guys some of the blander dishes. Did you have Pad Thai? Pad thai is very bland. That's what my grandmother eats. Real thai is not for the faint of tastebuds at all. The way that my family looks at it, if you are turning a deep shade of red all the way to your ears, the thai is perfectly seasoned! Next time, try some of the curries and ask for it to be moderately spicy. You may have to insist on it being spicy. Sometimes, Thai waiters/waitresses don't think you're serious about how spicy you want it (or know what you're getting into) and will give you a mild version. You might add that you want it to be so hot than you beg for death. Just make sure that you have a glass of chai tea handy.
Some thai dishes are on the bland side but most dishes should be very spicy. Satay chicken (a kind of peanut sauce coated grilled chicken) is good without being outrageously spicy (my 8 year old will eat it and it's easy to cook up on a George Foreman). The first time that we had thai, we had a friend of my sister's who was from Thailand staying with us over Christmas break. He offered to cook a traditional thai meal for us as a thank you and it was HOT! We became addicts that night.
