"l" is for female but, without respect, but, a friendly/affectionate version... "r" (the one with respect) is common for both male and female..


Thiruvalluvar is a male poet
Auvaiyaar is a female poet.


"r" also is a generic one for general terms (pallavar is a dynasty)

in mahabalipuram the puram means town or human-settlement. yes, the m ending is because it is not human. i think m is also for non-human living things.. I am just thinking...
