It had its on and off moments.

TBH I thought the last episodes were pretty weak and the emphasis on Jack's sexuality was a bit too much IMHO... didn't mind the level in Doctor Who but it did go over the top (and PLEASE don't get me started on the rubbishness of the life sucking monster!).

I'll probably watch the second series but that will also probably be because there isn't much else on I want to watch! Being on BBC2 now I envisage they will reign it in a bit! I know they've been told not to make Cardiff look so glamorous (a decision probably made by someone in London who can't stand the thought that another city in the UK possible be slightly nice) what else they do remains to be seen.
