It makes you think if this should be in the history thread. I haven't seen it yet, but i've heard a lot of bad things and they were more to do with the film (acting etc.) than the history. Historically speaking, the film was only accurate as far as the romantics are concerned. Ideas to do with promoting Hellenic culture, spreading Greek civilisation and fighting for the glory of Greece are not built on rational grounds and are certainly not evidenced. Ancient historians makes it quite clear that Aristotle inspired the King at a personal level and did not significantly influence his policy. The rest was Robin Lane Fox's concious decision to apply the 'brotherhood of mankind' hypothesis to give the film some direction, in spite of the fact that it was binned decades ago by nearly all historians. Still, this is what i would expect if i were to watch the film, and i guess Gaugamela would be interesting.
