so, who has seen Alexander? I saw it a few weeks ago and it was pretty good. Much, much better than Troy anyway, altho frankly that wouldn't have been difficult. Angelina Jolie was superb as usual, Tony Hopkins was top as Ptolemy, Colin Farell was reasonable I thought.
Some issues with the bisexual thing, although there is apparently some historical justification for that.
I was sorry they didn't do more in Egypt, at Siwa etc. And didn't connect Alexander to the philosophers. Aristotle was Alexanders teacher for example, so he saw himself as a saviour promoting Greek learning as well as being a violent conqueror.
I was disappointed that the movie made them look like a bunch of amateurs running things on a wing and a prayer. With armies that size, and that successfull, they would have required fantastically complex and tight communications and organisational management systems.
So he wasn't just a glory boy on the make, he must have been an excellent manager on a regional scale, and an inspiring leader and politician.
