I can see why Ma fell for him ....
Daddy was in the UDT during the War and the 1950's [
www.udtseal.org] .. he spent most of his time swimming underwater and planting explosives. He told us shark stories and getting drunk stories but he never told us anything about much else. I didn't find out until after he passed away that he was at a UDT base in Hawaii preparing to be one of the first guys ashore in the invasion of Japan but the bombs fell and the invasion wasn't needed.
Did you ever see the movie "The Frogmen"? It was based on actual missions the UDT had during WWII and Daddy was in UDT 4 that helped film the movie, he's in a lot of the underwater and boat scenes. Then there's a scene where the star, Richard Widmark, is talking to the men while they're laying in the bunks and Daddy can be seen really well in that one.
