Those sites were probably familiar to him,
but I can't be sure.
My dad was training in planes off aircraft
carriers on Lake Michigan, was yours? If not,
they still might have been in the same area.
My dad had some great stories, some fantastically
heroic and some very sad and tragic. In one
case, my mother's then fiance was killed in a
landing accident where he burned to death, and
my dad had to write and tell her because he was
their mutual good friend. When he returned
to Los Angeles, that's when they became more
friendly and eventually got married in January of
46.
Do you have any stories to share? I'd like to hear
them. Those guys really looked after each other,
and it turns out that the father of one of my dorm
mates from college was in the navy force that helped
protect aircraft carriers. Last year I emailed her
to tell her how much I appreciated his heroism and
what he did! The same goes for yours!
