You might try some online scanners for trojans and such as some virus, I believe, can alter the virus software to not detect it.

Mine does that sometimes! I start the computer then go to task manager(ctrl-alt-delete) and
End Task everything except Explorer and then do the scan disk or mine will run forever and never finish because something is running.
This last time I had to open
My Computer and right-click the "C" drive and go to the properties, then the tools tab and use the scan disk there. After it was done I had to go thru the Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Defrag path for the defrag to work.
I don't know why they didn't both work from the same place but... it finally got done. The longer it has been since last time just means longer time for it to get finished if it has been a long time( more then 3 months).
