Uh, I think you'd better speak JUST for yourself on this one. Why would ANYBODY be thrilled to find that their ancestor LOST? (Your example is like somebody a century hence saying "Michael Jackson molested my g.g.g.grandfather, isn't that amazing?"...... or "my g.grandmother was murdered by one of the Kennedy family")
Personally, What *I* take pride in is the fact that those of *MY* people (ahem) who lived on the other side of the law....... didn't get shot.... THEY did the shooting, instead (those family members who got killed were NOT direct ancestors).
