Uh... so for some reason you DON'T want to be allowed access to a gun for collection, sport, or self defense purposes? This confuses me, since you're unlikely to be masochistic, and you don't SOUND like you don't feel you can be trusted around sharp objects.
Over "here", we have more violent crimes involving guns. ALSO more violent crimes using knives. And blunt instruments. And bare hands.
I used to live in Taiwan, where if you got caught committing a crime (nonviolent or otherwise) while carrying a gun..... they'd execute you. Result was, criminals there didn't carry guns.... but DID carry knives & bludgeons & the like. Plenty of murders & assaults, just not many involving guns.
Me, I've not been involved in a fight since high school (& NEVER started one in my life). But I DO own guns, and know how to use them (which includes making sure they're unloaded, and locked away safe from the kids). Call it an insurance policy.
Violence is cultural, NOT "gun access oriented".
ALCOHOL kills & maims far more people than guns do. I've never understood the sense of KEEPING something that removes peoples' self control & common sense, while BANNING something that is LESS dangerous than the average automobile.
