It does have some rather negative connotations here doesn't it? Not so much a patriotic statement as a very nationalistic one.

I haven't read it yet as I spent too much time reading the 24 page terrorism special. Considering the revelations he makes though it's amazing that he maintained any kind of relationship with his father as an adult. He's always said that he considers his live performances as some kind of therapy although he's never been serious when discussing his childhood.
IMHO his most memorable gags were when discussing haircare products he said that where he came from Jojoba was the month before November and on Parkinson describing how when he opened for Elton John in the US the audiences absolutely hated him and made him feel "about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit." Funniest person I've ever seen anyway!
