<HTML>My feeling is that nothing less than a full scale invasion of Afganistan will satisfy the American people.
I personally believe that nothing less is appropriate.
A message must be sent to the entire world that the consequences of harboring terroists will be devestating and complete. It hardly matters that the Taliban did not know what Bin Ladin was up to. They took responsibility for him when they chose to offer him sanctuary.
Terrorists will not listen to reason nor can they be disuaded by acts of violence. Kill Bin Ladin and another figure will step into his shoes. The only way to keep this from happening again is to destroy those states who have embroiled themselves with him. State governments, at least, have some hope of understanding reason and recognizing the jeaprody in which terrorists place them.
I want to make it clear that I am not talking about mass killing of civilians. I am talking about a full scale ground invasion of Afganistan with the aim of overwhelming and destroying the Taliban government. Civilian casualties will occur under such circumstances, but the hope is that such would be kept to a minimum.
If the American government responds with anything less than this, it will be an insult to those who lost their lives on Tuesday - and it will only invite future attacks of this nature. Terrorism - and specifically - state involvment in terrorism - must be stamped out, without mercy.
I know that I sound harsh. Perhaps extreme. But I come to my position not out of a desire for vengence, but out of a desire to see the world become a safer place. Half measures will not accomplish anything. Those who die as a result of a few scattered bombings will die for nothing. If we are going to war, lets be certain we finish it.
