Well: I tried contacting "Ask a Librarian", and then the Arizona State Library, who were immensely helpful.
From them, I discovered that there was an edition (14 pages) of the Arizona Gazette on 1st April 1909 (Vol XXIX No. 134 Evg. 1 4 1909).
The leading stories on page 1 were "Zeppelin’s Perilous Flight" and "Convicts are caught in Frisco."
Page 2: there was an advert for "70 acres land (Orange Co.), $1,078".
Page 3, an advert for "Salome Hillside Gold Mining Co. (25c per share)".
Etc. etc.
At any rate, not the faintest sign of the "Egyptian Artefacts in the Grand Canyon" story.
