I think we may wish to consider the fact ONE group had a very vested interest in proving people from current Israel got to America in prehistory...

Furthermore their largest immigration to the area occurred between 1830 & 1870 and this ancient Samaritan paleo-hebrew was discovered and translated nearly the same latter time period...

Therefore you had
1) A group with vested interest in discovering such script
2) The ability to create the script (with possibly the same errors the original translators first made!)
3) On a stone who's security is abysmal, between scrubbing, polishing, and painting over letters to increase visibility no reasonable test can prove provenance at this point...

Certainly no one can prove it wasn't original circa 1000BCE... but with the weight of evidence I think the Occam's razor should at best say "probably fake and certainly unproven"...
