The tourguide says "30 tons" because that's what he lifted with it.
It has nothing to do with the actual capacity of the device, which has been estimated at no more than 10 tons of lift, before it would snap.
This is exactly the type of "bait and switch" that I described Ed doing.
Even Orval, who watched Ed work, never saw the device in motion. His diagrams have been shown to be impossible, because... even if it WAS a 30 ton hoist, it still only provided a 4:1 lifting ratio.
Ergo, Ed produced 7.5 tons of force with his BARE HANDS.
Like I said... not possible. Just another person who was "duped" by Ed. He may have been unable to understand "talkies"... but he sure understood people.
