Not that I want to make a tradition of dual posting on both GHMB and Maat, but I thought this was definitly something that people here could answer too, so here it is:
Does anybody know about the earliest accounts of archeological research ? Is it something fairly new, like a few hundred years, or is it more like astronomy, something which was invented by early civilizations ?
I realize there were history books a long time ago, and prior to that, tales passed down verbally to generations, but how far back do the earliest accounts of actual research, digs, and so on go ?
I'll appreciate any insight on this.
