Orkneys are Scotland? They weren't until about the 14th Century as an inheritance of the Maid of Norway, who died on the way.

Julius Caesar wrote to the king of the Orkneys before his expedition to Britain (not the invasion 100 years later). He gave his regards to the king which would seem to inicate that the king was no idiot and held some importance.

Should anyone be interested, the oldest stone circle is in the Orkneys (not Stonehenge or Avebury).

I agree with Jammer. There is no writing from Britain in 3000BCE but there is a lot of evidence to suggest that, technically, the "Megalithic People" were as advanced as those in the Middle East.
