Interesting to see the author notes most pre-19th century scholars accepted it as genuine.

Also to note: late 19th c authors, particularly the Philologists, were extremely keen to undermine anything to do with the Phoenicians. This looks like a fine example of that, so really, the fact that Ugarit subsequently evidenced similarities to what was said needs to be taken seriously.

Reading about who noted the similarities sounds like a good bet - probably the excavators of Ugarit or associated.
