The free American education system is not designed to promote
independent, critical, intelligent thinking. It's modeled
on the Prussian military model, designed to produce soldiers
and corporate Stepfordbots. If you want to get a really good
education, you either have to go private.. expensive.. home
school .. only good up to a point .. or get the reading and
writing skills and become an autodidact.. not widely rewarded
in a society where degrees are so important, even if often
basically meaningless.
As for the news media, their reporters and shows are controlled
by the corporatists and propaganda ministers to some extent, and
by the desire for ratings.. which leads to a very strange mix of
stultifyingly boring and dull shows to cheap, theatrical, exploitative
sensationalism. And the ratings successes tend to reproduce, which
is really scary.
