To quote from the link:
"Such stories infuriate serious scholars like Runnels. "These reports are irresponsible on the part of journalists," he says. "These claims are completely unsupported with any kind of factual evidence, such as artifacts or photographs of the alleged architectures. They have not been confirmed by archaeologists who have the training and competence to evaluate them. The person making the claims appears to have no training in archaeology and has not presented his finds in a way that would allow them to be scrutinized by trained experts. This is simply sensationalism and grandstanding and the journalists who have reported on these claims, without first fact-checking the stories with professional archaeologists, should be ashamed of themselves. People who believe these stories, especially when they are presented without evidence, are fools."
Sheesh, with all this high minded indignition, I can't help but wonder where Runnels & Archaeology Magazine were back during the Kennewick Man fiasco? You had the same BS going on, and WORSE..... since then there were *archaeologists* talking to reporters about *DNA*, archaeologists (often without any background in physical anthropology!) giving "way out in left field" craniometric pronouncements BEFORE Kennewick had even been studied, religious nuts of the neoPagan variety being avidly sought out by reporters, etc.
And where where they when Dennis Stanford pushes his Solutrean Connection to the LAY PUBLIC, despite the total lack of evidence, despite absolute opposition from genuine Solutrean experts like Lawrence Guy Straus?
Neh, this sort of behavior is nothing new...... so why are they getting so het up about it? Surely it's not because the crazies are warping OLD WORLD archaeology this time, instead of picking on American Indians?
