I received the following by post today from Penn State University dated 8 August 2001:
Dear Mr. Bauval,
I am following up on your previous email correspondence with Dr. Janis Jacobs in the President's Office since I am responsible for the conferencing unit at Penn State that provided support for the Egyptian Pyramids and the Sphinx conference. As you know, the conference has been cancelled due to insufficient enrollment and the Website promoting the conference has been taken down. We regret that the conference could not be conducted as planned. We most certainly regret any misunderstanding that you or others may have had, or any distress that was caused you due to the promotion activities surrounding this conference.
The conference was marketed by staff in our outreach organization. In the interest of generating attendance, and in a good faith effort to generate interest in a lively debate, I am afraid they used terms which upon reflection were innapropriate. The marketing language used on the Website and in our conference promotions was not the work producr of Dr. Fagan. Again, we regret any misunderstanding and concerns that you have as result of our good faith attempt to generate lively debate on alternative models of historical inquiry.
Thank you for your courtesy. Again, my appologies to you.
Yours Sincerely,
Patricia A. Book
Associate Vice-President for Outreach
Executive Director, Division of
Continuing Education

Let's note the important wording:
"The marketing language used on the Website and in our conference promotions was not the work producr of Dr. Fagan."
Are Mr Hancock and Mr Bauval big enough to tender their PUBLIC apologies - on a website of their chosing - to Dr. Fagan for their slurs on his character ?
