<HTML>Peter is just being logical Litz. In the first photo Ed is operating the hoist by smaller diameter hand chain. In the second the hand chain is not visible so the hoist must be operated by other means. Althrou details are unclear (otherwise mystery would have been resolved long ago) but the size of the space between sprockets and its general shape suggest to me that electric motor might be a very good explanation how this particular hoist was operated. Electricity?? Not a problem, even if site was not supplyed from the outside a gasoline genearator was all what was needed.
