Kat writes, ' if people are better informed about some of the cultures that keep being the focus for these authors (Egypt, Maya etc) then maybe thay won't buy the garbage.'
I whole-heartedly agree.
Had I been better informed back in the early seventies about such cultures I would not have swallowed Daniken's
Chariots of the Gods. Was God an Astronaut? and many other books like it hook, line and sinker.
Discouraging people from buying and, more significantly, believing works on Alternative History requires more than shouts of, 'It's rubbish', 'It is not logical', 'That's a strawman arguement', and so on, and so forth.
We need more posts, articles, and books along the lines of
Some Trust in Chariots by B. Thiering, & E. Castel (1975).
We need more material that explains in detail and in layman terms what precisely is wrong with the Alternative History point or claim being made.
For example, asserting that pi does not appear in the GP because the AEs did not know pi, is quite simply not enough. We need to be told what makes Egyptologists think this. Details of the contents of the Rhind and Moscow papyri and their provenance need to be covered, and explanation given of why the AEs could not have known pi.
And that's just for starters
